7 Sweet Recipes for Quarantine Baking

With the whole world seemingly at a standstill and many of us still stuck in quarantine, we suddenly find ourselves having lots of time on our hands. To while away the long hours spent inside our homes, many of us have resorted to certain hobbies and learned not a few particular skills.

For instance, a lot of us have certainly enjoyed eating at this time and given in to our dessert cravings. Those with a sweet tooth, for example, might have ordered a bulk of their favorite treats from wholesale sweets suppliers. It’s certainly fun to do this, but another equally interesting and worthwhile activity you can try is baking.

For some people, baking is something they already know very well. For many others, however, it’s something that’s a big deal as it’s probably the first time they’re trying out the activity as a hobby. The good thing about this is that there are different recipes you can try doing according to your level of skill and knowledge.

We have compiled a list of unique recipe ideas and organised them by skill level. Feel free to research about them on your own time and to try them out in your kitchen.

You can whip up these delicious recipes in less than two hours and they don’t require any special equipment or ingredients.

  • Beer bread - This savory bread is surprisingly easy to make and quick to assemble. It’s a great accompaniment to your usual soups and stews that you and your family eat at dinner. When making this bread, the paler your beer, the better.
  • Atlantic Beach Pie - This citrus-based pie consists of a crust that’s made from saltine crackers, sugar, and butter; while the filling itself is just a mixture of condensed milk, lemon juice, and egg yolks.
  • Lemony Turmeric Tea Cake - From the name itself, you might think this recipe is complicated to make, but you’ve got it wrong. You just need to make sure you have the essential ingredients---turmeric powder and two lemons---and you’re halfway there.

You’ll have to spend a bit more time on these dishes, and they will also require some special ingredients and equipment.

  • Blueberry Pie Bars - These mouthwatering bars have four layers: bread crumbs as toppings, blueberries, cream cheese filling, and shortbread as a crust. When it comes to the type of blueberries you’ll use, opt for the frozen wild kind and not the fresh ones.
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies - This is a classic recipe, and this version was adapted from Jacques Torres, the famous chocolatier and chef. The secret to making “crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside” choco chip cookies is to place the dough in the chiller for approximately 36 hours before you bake it.

To do these recipes, you’ll need a bit of experience in the kitchen as well as some special tools and ingredients. These also require plenty of time to make.

  • Twice-Baked Sour Cherry Pie - While it can be a bit hard to acquire sour cherries as they’re not commonly found in grocery stores, the effort in finding them is well worth it as those who have tasted this dish declare that it is the best cherry pie recipe of all time. It’s a grand claim, definitely; but we suggest you find out for yourself if it’s really true by trying out this recipe yourself.
  • Lemon Bars With Sea Salt and Olive Oil - This lemon bar is different from all the others you’ve probably tasted as these are a bit more sophisticated than the usual bars. The sea salt and olive oil used in this recipe bring the conventional lemon bar to another level.

Part of the fun in baking is trying out things you’ve never tried before. Just make sure you have all the necessary ingredients and tools for each recipe and that you follow each step carefully.
